Laie Point, 2021, acrylic on wood
This painting was made for my grandma when I was 17. She requested the view of the ocean from her mother’s property and “Turtle Island.” I added my great grandma holder her as a baby. Looking back on this now, nothing is in the correct perspective; I had litte understanding of how to apply color theory to create atmospheric depth, and my composition wasn’t as well-thought-out as what I would do today. Still, I am proud of what little me created, and my grandparents love it! It hangs over their bed in their house in Tucson.
